[Fill In Your Blank]
Think of someone you really admire. Could be a friend, parent, celebrity, writer, or a really distant acquaintance.
What do you admire about that person?
Their confidence?
How responsible they are?
How kind they are?
Now think of areas in your life that you want to improve. Perhaps it’s your confidence, sense of responsibility, don’t take charge, or [fill in the blank].
Most times we can identify why we admire someone, but it’s hard to explain why we admire those things about them. Usually it’s because we want to exhibit those admirable qualities that we might be lacking.
For me, I have an uncle who is the definition of responsible and dutiful. Whenever I feel lazy or that a task is too big to handle right now, I approach the situation as if I had his mindset.
The role model I use to remain calm in the face of chaos, as corny as it sounds, is James Bond. Bond can walk away from a fight/car chase/shoot-out with swiftness, as if it’s just another day at work.
If you are trying to improve your social speaking abilities, visualize how your confident role model would address and speak to a group and then emulate that manner. For me, it’s Ryan Holiday.
Not everyone is born confident, responsible, or naturally proactive to situations instead of reactive. These are all habits that we must cultivate, practice, and enact in any way possible. Think deeply about just 1 trait you wish to develop in your personality. Now imagine someone who exemplifies that trait and how they would act in certain situations. Finally, start to emulate these actions and qualities in any scenario you find yourself in.
Final Thoughts
I’m not saying to copy someone else’s personality – I’m saying use your role model(s) to help reshape your mindset. Use those role models as inspiration to empower you in areas you lack. Let their inspiration help fill in your blank.
